Sesh is a mobile app for skateboarders to record sessions, log tricks, find and rate skate spots, see how busy a spot is, follow friends, and skate in crews. It is currently in closed beta. This page explains what data Sesh collects, how it is used, and who can see it.
What we collect
Account
- Email address and password, handled by our authentication provider (Supabase). The password is stored hashed — we never see it.
- Display name.
Profile
- Home city and its approximate coordinates (you pick a real city from a list).
- Experience level, board setup, and a reputation score ("cred") the app calculates from your activity.
Location
- Session routes. While you record a session, the app collects GPS points (latitude, longitude, timestamp) to calculate your route, distance, and speed. This is precise location. It is collected while the app is in use, and — only if you grant the "allow all the time" permission — in the background so tracking continues when your screen is off during a session. Background tracking runs as a foreground service and only while a session is recording; if you don't grant that permission, the app records only while it is open.
- Live location sharing is off by default and opt-in per session. When you turn it on, your current location is shared only with your crew, only while that session is running, and the record is deleted when the session ends. It is never shared with groups or shown publicly.
- Spot locations you add, and check-ins ("posting up") when you mark that you're at a spot.
Activity
- Sessions (distance, duration, time), tricks logged, and your trick progression.
- Spot contributions: verifications ("cosigns"), ratings ("stoke"), reports ("heads-ups"), and crowd reports.
- Social: who you follow, "props" (kudos) you give, crews and groups you join, posts and replies you write, and photos you upload of spots.
- Beta feedback you submit from within the app.
Technical
- Standard operational logs from our hosting (Supabase) and app platform (Expo).
- If crash reporting is enabled in a future build, diagnostic crash data.
We do not collect contacts, browsing history, advertising identifiers, or health data. Sesh contains no ads and no third-party ad or analytics trackers.
How we use it
Only to run the app's features: build your feed, show the spot map and cred-weighted "how busy is it now" estimates, track your progression, power crews and live location, and moderate abuse. We may produce aggregated, anonymised crowd-trend statistics for a spot (e.g. "usually busy Saturday afternoons") — this does not identify individuals.
Who can see your data
Inside the app, visibility follows these rules:
- Your profile (name, city, skill, cred, follower counts): visible to any signed-in user.
- Your sessions and trick progress: visible to you and to people who follow you.
- Your live location during a session: visible only to your crew, only while the session runs, then deleted.
- Group posts: visible to members of that group.
- Spot contributions (ratings, heads-ups, crowd reports, photos): visible to all users, attributed to your display name.
We share data with service providers who process it on our behalf:
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage.
- Expo — app build and delivery infrastructure.
- Open-Meteo — city name lookup during onboarding (we send the text you type; no account data).
- OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — address lookup when you add a spot by address (we send the address text you type).
- Map tiles are rendered by Apple Maps (iOS) or Google Maps (Android).
We do not sell personal information, and we do not sell or share individual location history. We may contribute spot location corrections (not personal data) back to OpenStreetMap.
We will disclose data if required by law or to protect users' safety.
Retention and account deletion
We keep your data while your account exists. Live-session location records are deleted automatically when a session ends.
Deleting your account. In the app, go to Profile → Settings → Delete my account to request deletion. You can also email tim@seshskate.app. We delete your account and associated personal data within 30 days.
Some records that reference you (e.g. a spot you added, a crew you own) may be retained in de-identified form so shared data isn't broken for other skaters.
Your choices and rights
- Live location sharing is opt-in, per session, and can be toggled off any time.
- You choose who you follow and which crews/groups you join.
- You can edit or clear your profile fields, and delete your own sessions, photos, ratings, and spots from within the app.
- You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by emailing tim@seshskate.app.
- On your device, you can revoke location or photo permissions in system settings (some features stop working without them).
Children
Sesh is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires), and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access is restricted by database row-level security rules. No system is perfectly secure; use a unique password.
Beta disclaimer
Sesh is a closed beta. Features and this policy may change, and data could be reset. Don't treat Sesh as your only record of your sessions.
Changes
We'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email.
